Thru hulls for sale in charleston?

Been to all 3 west marines, thru hull selection is kinda lacking. Who else in charleston has stainless thru hulls with good inventory?

Replacing all the plumbing on a 02’ key west 2020. Wanting to remove all plastic below waterline.

It’s really not a good idea to use stainless below the waterline. It is a good idea to get rid of plastic though. Silicon bronze is the way to go.

So you are saying the gemlux stainless thru hulls are no good?

I’m not saying they are no good, just not for that application. I’m saying that stainless steel is not designed to be below the waterline. Stainless has to have air and oxygen to remain stainless. They will corrode quickly. Silicon bronze is made for below water use and will be easier to find and last a lot longer.

check online at Hamiltonmarine.com or Jamestowndistributors.com. They will have what you need and you’ll get it in 3 days.

Larry, you are a wealth of information, and I don’t mean that sarcastically.

This is a good vendor also.

Larry is correct about bronze being best underwater. Not that big if sitting on a trailer mostly, but stainless can and does stain- even GEM stuff. Can’t beat their electropolished stuff topside, but sitting in the water, you want bronze or marelon.

Thank you for the help. Will check those out. Still need to gut mine to see what size I have now. My deck drains have flappers. When powering in reverse water passes by the flaps as it is and they are in good shape. I imagine with no flappers it would be worse which is the reason I have not bought any locally yet, can’t find one with the flaps.
