have been wanting to get to the ledge but since that wasnt going to happen set up a t.star trip for my birthday and am worn out!!! Trip out wasnt bad but had three kids yakin the whole way so tried to play nurse to them…there were also a couple guys sick too…the boat was only 1/2 full but seems everyone likes to crowd up on everyone and certain people can be very territorial…but all in all it was a good time…caught lots of bsb, porgies,beeliners,ring tails, a couple triggers, and throw in a shark or two…then I really got slammed…took along a tld 15 and one of my black and gold diawa spinners for top water…and of course the two fish i caught were both on the spinner with 20lb test line and a mac rig…first hooked up with a mac of about 30lbs…then set the line back out and wham…line slams forward…I grabbed it up and what ever it was felt like it was going straight down with no stopping…after working the fish around the front of the boat and then back down the side while trying to weave in and out of everyones lines with the help of Patrick our crew guy …I finally managed to get it to the back and up…29lb amber jack…at this point my butt was whipped:slightly_smiling_face:…boy would I have loved to have the light fighting belt my husband left hanging on the chair… great day on the water and great fun… Im sure i’ll sleep good tonight…and who knows…maybe the ledge next year…
80.00 plus crew tip…stringer for fish is 1.00 box cigar minniows 15.00 for 5lb food /drink available but extra///can also take your own if you want to…get your fish cleaned for 40 cents pound…great deal after fishing all day…they have a web site…took some of my own tackle thanks to suggestion from agood friend (thanks stretch:smiley:) and some ballyho too…but all of that is by my choice…they supply electric rods and all the squid you can use if thats all you want to use…was a nice day out!!! oh yeah,and better on weekdays…only 31 people on our trip yesterday

oh yeah…one other thing…I noticed that there were several people boarding the boat that had large coolers…I mean LARGE coolers and I mentioned to the first mate that we were told small soft coolers only were allowed…he told me that these men were “professionals” so exceptions were made for them…I asked him what a “professional” meant…and he said it was people who booked freq. and year round trips with them ( they also got to baoard first because you board according to your reservation and since they are freq. flyers…I also learned later that a few of these have licenses and sell their catch…which is their buisness///because it is legal… but for example; one guy staked out the front part of the bow and seemed to get a little miffed when I moved one of his 7 rods ( that by the way he never even used) out of the way to fight one of my fish( I moved it to an empty one between his spread…his "claimed"area had at least 10 -12 rod holders if you count the two on upper bow rail)… and behind his live well he brought with him. Now my question is this…and please dont think Im having a case of sour grapes… because we did have a great time…but do you think certain customers should get different treatment if their is no VIP policy noted??? Just a question for thought and discussion…and by the way… yes…we would go again despite this…
thanks for your opinion…A guy on board told us that they dont pay more for these privleges and that actually he gets a discount because he goes so often…which I think is a nice gesture and that he/ they probablly deserve it because they ARE “freq.flyers”…but should the treatment/rules be different too??

Not a snowballs chance in he$# that this was legal! I promise you that they do not have a Snapper / Grouper complex permit. If they did they would be on there own boat. The average price for theese permits is $16,000-$20,000. You hve to buy two existing permits to get one new one. This is part of the commercial reduction. There are a lot of fish that can be sold with a “saltwater wholesale lic”, but snapper, grouper, trigger, b-liners, can not. These fish have to go from boat to wholesaler (crosby / cherry point), and all must have snapper / grouper complex permits. Records are kept of landings, and sale.
Paul - this ■■■■ pisses me off - is there any way to get the Man to show up and bust some folks like they did two or three years ago when patrons/mates/captains on the T-Star were ignoring limits?
oops////I assumed that when I heard them say they had a license it meant just that…didnt know it would open up a new can of worms…sorry…just wanted to get some opinions on the other stuff…not cause trouble:roll_eyes:…and they tell everyone on board that they are reponsible for checking their sizes and limits and give you a list to go by…so again didnt mean to upset anyone…( refering to post under “gigging” )
