Thursday 4/24 Report

Decided to take a day off to fish and left the dam with Wild Bill about 6:15 to start off pulling some FLs and PBs around some points in Ballentime. The wind was blowin pretty good, but we were able to get 7, all shorts, before it got about impossible to control the boat. Picked up a nice cat too on FL.

Spot 2 was sheltered, but pretty must a bust as we only got one fish.

About 10:30 or so the wind died and we went looking around in some open water and found a bunch of fish on a hump in 30’. We dropped anchor, since I seem to be the only striper fisherman left on Murray without I-Pilot…lol, and fished cut and live bait. We got one short and a nice cat on cut, but got 10 on DRs a couple of cranks off the bottom.

By about 1:00 they seemed to cut off, so we called it a day. Only wound up with 1 keeper out of 18 stripers, but had a ball. Felt great to get back out on the lake. My only regret was that I didn’t bring along any spoons as I would have loved to have tried them when we were fishing that hump.

I really like a deadly dick or old fashond hopkins in those conditions.

Nice Tim,

Liz made me drag the boat out last night as well … Collected the kids and we were on the water a little after 7 last night …

Went back over to Bomb where we joined Riff & Chip/Corey who were already in progress working the area …

We had a dozen or so Herring with us so we put out a couple of freelines and a couple of downrods and started working the area …

Within 10 minutes we had a 24" hit a downrod - Erika reeled him in and we threw it back to grow some more …

Little while later the freeline and the downrod on the portside hooked up right at the same time … Lost the downrod, but Liz was able to manage to reel in the smallest fish of the day which was barely 10" …

Rounded the front of the Island and as we were getting ready to call it an evening the other downrod went off and RJ reeled in a 23" Striper which was invited to Riff’s house for dinner …

Hit the water a little after 7 left about 8:30 … not bad for a little evening stress relief …

On a side note - just figured out that the Lowrances (We have an Elite-5 DSI and an Elite-7x HDI) have “Night Mode” … Friggin cool - it’s like night vision for your FF …

I’ll take pics next time we’re Black Ops Striper Fishin’ …

… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

I didn’t know it had that or I’d have charged you more.

Had a great time Tim. Thanks again buddy you are a class act.

WILDBILL

Tim,
Are you doing a spring “tournament” like you did in the fall? I know there’s at least a couple of us that would like to have a get together!

Sounds good to me. Actually got something like that going on in the morning with an annual get together we started 21 years ago when I used to work at NCR.

Hadn’t really thought about it lately, but I would definitely be up for it. I want to fish the DNR Open Tx on the 5/17 and the then got the Troops Fishing thing at the end of June, so maybe something like 5/31 would be good…and LIVE BAIT this time!! That artie only stuff seemed like a good idea and can be great at times but just to unpredictable.

I’ll post something soon and see if there is any interest.

I think what Tim is saying is that he needs to refer to his Long Range Severe Inclement Weather Forecast before he picks a date.
