We had a pretty good day overall. We headed toward the Edisto Banks at between 20 to 25mph (it was a beautiful morning). Nothing there for us, so we headed to the 226 hole. Went in a little to around 300’ and started getting knockdowns left and right. We ended up catching 10 mahi (2 nice bulls, a nice cow, the rest were small gaffers and slingers). We lost a nice bull at the boat and several more way back when they were doing their acrobatics.
The funny thing was, after we started having action, the 6 or 7 big boats that were further out, pulled lines and ran right in to where we were. It was funny to see all those 50’ foot boats follow my 20’ boat. But, it isn’t the size of the boat that catches the fish anyways . All in all, it was a great day and we used a whopping 42 gallons.
Nice job! It certainly is nice to burn less than 50 gallons on a trip like that. People knock the small boats being out there but I know at the end of the day I’m pleased when I only burn 40 gallons after heading out that far.
Yeah, let them knock on. I know it is not as comfy, but it sure is fun fishing from a small boat at times. When you get 2 or 3 on at a time, it makes it real exciting. I was real excited last week when I caught my first sail. That was pretty interesting with the limited space on my boat for maneuvering and fighting the fish.
You just have to read the forecasts very good, not just for the day you are going, but the days before and after. You have to be smart about it ya know. Hey, I don’t care how big someone’s boat is, any boat can get in trouble given certain conditions. And boy it feels good to put only $160.00 in the boat instead of 160 gallons .

Good day. I think we saw you out there. We went to 300ft as well. I guess we should have stayed.
40 gal. is great. We burn usually burn 85 to 90 and hold 125. 40 would be nice.
