Couldn’t stand the idea of not getting out, so decided to take a vacation day and call some friends and get a crew together. Took out at Remleys at 0500 and headed straight towards the 226. Stopped at a few weed lines on the way there, but didn’t see much life, so we continued on. Got almost to the 226 and saw some good weeds and put the lines out.
Managed to get the last line out and saw the big guy light up and fight was on. Got him in the boat took a pic, reset and searched for more. Continued to troll North and hooked up triple Mahi. Only 3 guys on the boat made this really difficult. Made sure the hook was sunk on the furthest line, and put it back in the rod holder. Got the one to the boat and it was to small for my liking, so we threw him back. Lost the 2nd one, but managed to get the one in the rod holder to the boat and in the box.
Had 6 in the boat, things were slow and it was getting to be about 1300, so we decided to head back in towards some bottom fishing and try and get some groceries. As we came back in we saw some diving birds and decided to meander up and investigate. Got up there and cut the engines so as to not spook anything and a big school of mahi swarmed the boat. Probably about 20-30 of them in 120’ of water. Threw out some cut baits, a popper, jig, and could only get 4 of them to bite. Kept one and threw the others back and left.
Didn’t do very good bottom fishing this time around, the AJ’s were all over every bait we dropped, and what baits we did get past them, either were small grunts, or the dang Cudas got to them first and left us with the heads. Got two Beeliners in the box and we decided to roll in. Back at the dock by 1800.
