Thursday at Ballentine

This report is about what we did, saw, and heard. Any comments on what we should have done will be appreciated.

We elected to pull planer boards and big slip floats down Ballentine typically working 15 to 30 feet of water. While never saw any topwater schooling, picked up lots of active fish, especially around humps and points. We had several short strikes, but only hooked up 4 short fish.

When we came in, heard that there had been good schooling action up above the Gap. Generally that’s further than we want to travel, but may need to bite the bullet.

Finally, one of the shorts we caught is going to startle somebody if he manages to put on a few more pounds, because he didn’t have an upper lip. Had a face like a pug.

Go buy the captain and yourself some cold weather gear and start running further…ha…I know its not what u wanna here but action is moving up lake. We fished big gap this past weekend and did good on quality fish. Next trip for me will be above the forks.

Gotta work this weekend or I would be up there tomorrow. Bait catching trip next weekend up there but may do some fishing as well.

You most likely were in shorts that couldn’t take the bait or gar. There are fish that stay in Ballentine and Jakes all year, but the majority of the fish will head up. If you can trailer your boat you should go fish up in the big Saluda when the fish are in there. I think you would really like it, great scenery and fishing. I have not been able to fish in over a month with due to electrical issues and being to stubborn to pay for a diagnostic. But if I were going I would be fishing somewhere between macedonia and the river confluence.

tom; what is the problem. do you want to bring it over to the house and you and i either destroy it or fix it. you can park it there for several days with no problem.

Thanks Bobby, I need a peak voltage adapter for my multimeter to test everything out. But I noticed a wire hanging down from the stator, came loose from the windings. Two mechanics told me that is most likely the problem. I got one on Ebay that just came in yesterday. I plan to pull the flywheel off and put it on tomorrow. We will see how that goes.
