Due to a couple private messages yesterday I decided to give a try on top water. I have tried before with no luck, so even though I keep them in the kit, I never use them. Decided this morning that I would give them a fair shake. I didn’t actually manage to land any but had about 20 blowups, a solid hookup and spit out, and one break off. My heart was pounding the whole time. I am hooked now!
When the current started pushing I changed to a white gulp shrimp and landed two reds and a trout. All legal or close to, all thrown back.
There was another gentlemen out there fishing live shrimp under a cork and the gulp and topwater got all of the game fish action. Hands down.

Love it! I’m a firm believer in top water forcing fish to bite. It draws too much attention from the fish and forces them to try for an easy meal. Another thing I think it does is requires the fisherman to focus more. Many times when fishing baits lower in the water column I lose focus and won’t use the same reel speed or cadence when working a lure. When you see your lure on top it makes you focus more. Plus, who cares how many you catch when you get to see the strikes like that it makes it worth it! The challenge of making them eat is really what gets my juice flowing.
Top Water is a blast A TTP that i use is to follow up on misses with a white fluke or a gulp shrimp

Thanks TMan5000, it was your PM that made me want to try it! That’s what this site is all about.

Good to hear it, glad you were able to get some action on top. I’m hoping to be back down first weekend of November for some more of it.
I’ll be in bushy at 6am to start with some top
