Thursday, could have been better

Thank goodness for a SW wind. (With a NE wind like Monday I don’t think I can find fish in an aquarium.) Found fish and had them all day in 60 feet of water off Poverty Point. But getting them to bite was another matter. Could watch several of my baits on the fish finder, see the fish come up to them, and then the rod tip would twitch. Happened time after time. Only managed one 21 inch and a fat 26 inch.

Water temp going back up (81.9)and baits seemed to do OK at 45 feet but not so well at 50 or more. Not sure what to make of the Water Level graphs one can view on the MSC website. Looks like oxygen continues to fall and bottom temperatures really going up. Fall can’t get here soon enough for me.

Lakefan, I use a Humminbird 587 and have just shortly moved to manual mode. Wish I had done it a long time ago. As you’ve heard, forget Fish-ID, and make your settings as high as practical (you’ll see what I mean). For best views you’ll generally only be concerned with about a 40 foot range of depths so you can set your upper and lower limits accordingly once you decide upon them.
