Thursday night report 9-6

Fridays forecast didn’t look good so Steeverino and I decided to go out last night. We caught some bream and got 2 dozen herring from lake world. Marked fish where I left them last Friday and dropped lines. Steve got one 18" steeverino and that was all we caught there. Pulled up to search for fish and they were scattered everywhere across the big water but no concentrations. It almost looked like it does when the lake turns over and the fish scatter. I know we are still 1.5 months away from that, but that is what it seemed like. Both the herring and the bream were dying when dropped deep. After we put the lights in we had fish from 15 to 30 feet right below the bait. Never saw the bait from the surface, but they were on the ff. I finally got one about 22" down 15’ over the river channel. I’m taking a week off to let the water cool. There were schools of tiny bait all over the surface before sunset.

Edit to add lake temp up to 84 form 82 last Friday

We went out this morning searching between Frey Key and Hollywood Point and only found widely scattered fish. The few bites we had were weak attempts. Just one 21 inch and a shorter one. Surprised that water temps appear to be rising slightly. A couple weeks of cooler weather would be nice. The bait doesn’t last long at 65-70 feet. We look at the Lake Murray Level Graphs that are linked on the MSC webpage often. Some good info there.

LHM said they were schooling right off Susie Gilbert and the CG Station right before we came in, but we didn’t see any action there.

Worry not…Everyone stay home for the next week or so…get your honey do’s done…have a few beers…watch some football and get rested up…by next weekend they will be on fire!!

We went out Wednesday night and had pretty much the same luck. Marked scattered fish from around spence to the dam. Nothing wanted to really take the bait. Ended up with 3 smalls and 1 catfish. I may just take striperskiffs advice and take a week off.Deer season coming up soon in my area guess it will give me a chance to get my shop ready for processing.

Fished from 11AM- 3:30 this afternoon and the bite was very slow. I didn’t feel like getting up early after all the good football yesterday. Did manage 4 with 1 around 6 pounds jigging. All 4 were 22 inches or better. The live baits were all dead within 2-3 minutes of putting them down. But I chalk the slow bite up to the front, high winds, and the fact that fished the worst part of the day. I enjoy a challenge every now and then:sunglasses:
