A buddy and myself went out in my 20 footer. We are both sore all over today (go figure). We started around Y73 and worked out to around 150’. Before I could get the second line out, the first one had a king on. That happened back to back. We had plenty of action and apparently rubber hooks. Out of 30 to 35 hits, we only managed to land 5 fish. They were 3 kings, one cuda and one slinger bull. We still had a good time out there bouncing around . All in all it was a good, safe trip and we only burned 30 gallons of petro .
OK, now that you have convinced me that you are a touch insane, you and I were supposed to hook up last Winter and go Striper fishing on the lake. Did you do any this past year? If so, how was the lake this winter? I’m starting to catch them in the Cooper as usual this time of year. I’m looking forward to a good summer striper bite again this year. The next few weeks should be interesting.

Gotcha, just go and read the striper section. I did fairly well. Also, the bite might be good this summer, but with the new regs, you can’t keep any until October.
About being insane: Yesterday was definitely not a day for the mosquito fleet. My boat handles real well, but it is uncomfortable in those conditions. Maybe you can take me on a real offshore boat (yours).
P.S. I’m glad you mentioned the new regs. I’m used to the 21" rule, and keep a striper every now and then (though I release them normally). I won’t now, I guess. I haven’t heard about the new striper regs, but I’ll check it out now.

Gotcha, I would love to go anytime you have room. Only problem is that I am suffering from EWS (Empty Wallet Syndrome). Let me know when you are going and maybe I can pull together some funds. About the new striper regs, as much as I love to catch and eat them, I think they should just close the season all together for a couple of years. The way it is now, there will be a lot more floaters. And in the months that you can keep three that are at least 26", it is going to add fish that are 21" to just under 26" to the floaters.
if u want to land more king or dolphin etc… u need to go to a bigger hook or let the hook show more

We used the same tackle and rigged the bally the same way that we do on my buddy’s grady. It was just one of those days. My guess is that with the nasty seas, my small boat, and the fact that my boat speed would surge up and down more than a bigger boat would under the same conditions, possibly caused poor hook sets. Who knows though? We would have taken his grady, but his port motor’s prop shaft is being replaced. It was still a fun day.
I’m glad you mentioned the new regs. I’m used to the 21" rule…

FWIW, I just checked the regs. It’s still 21" and I didn’t see any dates stating when you can/can’t keep.
Having said that, there are a few, select, areas where the fish have to be 27".

The new reg booklet will not be published until July. The governor signed the new regs into effect on May 21. I'm not sure how it works though. Are they really in effect now or after the publication. Unless I find out for sure soon, I'll play it safe.
