Thursday Report

Put in at the dam shortly before 7 and got 2 dozen bait from David. After chatting a while, I eased out and dug out A downrod(singular). Then I motored to one of my waypoints out from the swimming area and marked fish on the bottom at 62 feet. Dropping baits to 54, I got fish of 22 and 23 inchers in short order before they disappeared. Moved up to another nearby waypoint and reeled up a 15 incher. Time to move. Set up on a favorite point and got fish of 24 and 27 inches to end the trip with my one downrod:sunglasses: Boat was put up, batteries put on charge, and fish cleaned and put away by 10:45.

Skiff, maybe a good idea for one of your get-togethers could be a one rod calcutta during 5-and-done:smiley:

Nothing better than fish being so thick you can’t get more than one down. Last year it was like that for over 2 months at the same spot every evening. From Mid April until July. Haven’t caught one fish there this year. Weird how much the fishing changes from year to year.

The fish weren’t particularly thick yesterday. I chose to fish just 1 rod, because who wants to be done in less than a half hour? With 5+done and being solo, I look for ways to make things more interesting.

Fog,

We probably need to try Deadly Dicks, sometime soon. I may try that some this week.

Since the weather made the last one a bust, maybe it would be a good time before it gets too awful hot. The kids are out of school, baseball is over and the water is warm enough they can take a swim afterwards.

Thinking maybe June 22 would be good. With 5 and done in place, something like 6 am with a weight in at 10 would be good. Personally, I like the 1 rod idea, but since some of us may have kids on the boat, I hate to put that restriction in. I think it may turn away others too who may be interested, but don’t really get a chance to get out and fish often like some of us do.

Anyway, I’ll post something soon in a seperate thread and see if there is much interest.

So is this 5 fish rule per person or a boat as a whole? Looked around the fishing regs and didn’t see it listed as per person.

The way I understand it, it’s 5 fish per person.

Yes, 5 per person per day. It’s listed in the striped bass regulations under “Exceptions”.

Note: When DNR spoke at the MSC meeting last year they stated that their official definition of “Day” is 1 hour before sunrise to one hour before sunrise the following day - NOT MIDNIGHT. Even if you stayed out for a couple of days you still cannot have more than 5 per person in possession. Lastly, it’s been reported that they are keeping tabs on who’s doing the catching on a boat. Once you’ve caught 5 don’t touch a rod even if others on the boat have not caught their limit.

10-4 Tim. I was thinking 1 rod per angler with unlimited anglers per boat. However, if you think that will turn folks off, I understand.
