I got on the water around 5:30 after work. Only caught 5 shorts, 1 nice largie and a perch. Biggest 2 stripers were just shy of 21". All of the fish except the perch hit topwater Spook Jrs. There were some really big stripers scattered in the schools but I only had one big fish roll on the Spook. In hindsight, I should have ignored the schoolers and worked the spoons more. The schooling activity was sporadic and generally in water atleast 20’ deep or deeper in the elbow area.
Oh well. Still sounds like an enjoyable mini-outing. With the early sunset, you couldn’t have really fished much more than an hour… Diddy mentioned possibly joining you Sunday afternoon, but he’ll have to see how he’s doing after getting that tooth extracted. He’s been miserable with it.
With the Gamecocks playing early tomorrow, I plan to fish Sunday morning. Gonna go waaay up and work my way back down to Acapulco hitting a bunch of different areas with planers and freelines.

I plan to fish this morning. Have a friend from work who has never seen what the spoons can do. He doesn’t have a TM or depthfinder on his toonboat. I’m going to try to find the perch and then call him with directions. Hopefully the wind will cooperate so he can stay on them with an anchor.
I’ll have a few striper artificials with me, just in case they school. I don’t plan on the schools, but believe in being prepared anyway. I’ve been seeing a few bigguns in some of the schools. Should be due for a 10 or 12 pounder soon. You might not have to go waaay up to catch a biggun. The elbow area is still holding a bunch of bait and fish.
I also plan to try the green fish this afternoon. If they don’t bite then I’ll look for striper schools.
Went out this morning planning to catch a bunch of fish. Started early with almost no other boat traffic around. Great morning for fishing, except I couldn’t get the fish to cooperate. Talked to several others who had the same frustration. Wore me out fighting the wind and waves and ran the batteries down by lunchtime. Only had 7 perch for my efforts. This was the first morning I’ve tried and it will be the last morning for me for a while. The afternoon bite seems to be 10 times better than the morning. I may be out tomorrow afternoon. If so I hope to have a better report to share.
Got on the water late today, after 5:00. Stripers were schooling bigtime. Another boat was in the area fishing smart with the trolling motor only, following the schools. I did the same and managed one nice 24"er on topwater. Then… here come the uneducated boats running in with their big motors, spooking the fish. Several of them had trolling motors, guess they don’t know how to operate them. Naturally this spooks the fish and frustrates me enough that I just quit fishing. Could have been a great evening for me and the other sensible boat if the other boats had just come in quietly. Oh well, I might be able to fish for most of the evenings this week without the big motor crowd being out there. Looks like some day they would figure it out and learn how to fish schools correctly.
