Thursday Report

I had a great day fishing with my favorite partner in just about everything I do-- my wife Jennifer! She told me she wanted a day of fishing with just me and her over spring break, and I was happy to oblige. We caught 40+ stripers, 2 10-12 pound cats, and a big gar pulling in 8-35 feet of water. Down one 2 mile stretch, we caught at least one keeper off of every point. These don’t compare to the behemoths of late, but 25+ were good solid 5-10 pound keepers. All were released, because I kept some Tuesday. Jennifer had a ball, and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer day! Here are a few pics:

The bite was def good today. We had the same results and only fished from 7-10am…took almost an hr to get a full spread out. Easily caught 30-40 fish with double/trios/quads on…

Wish me wife would join…hahaha…maybe if there was an outlet store on spence island i could get her out there.

Made a rare two day in a row trip today, taking out my and Spoon’s friend Kelly and his 8 year old grandson Wally. We had to alter the location a little due to high south, south-west winds but had a ball with 25+ fish to 10 pounds. The only short was the last fish of the day. The lake is on fire!! They kept 5 nice ones and we released the rest.

Sounds like y’all had a ball. How many did Wally wind in?

8-10. He got pretty good at winding down and pumping back with the baitcasters. He also got good with the net. I’m sure he’s sleeping well tonight!

Luck man to have his wife go with him, Like MM said mabe if a mall out there! The name of my offshore boat she named LAST STRAW!!

I am, indeed, a very blessed man! 24 years ago, our second date was a fishing trip. Jennifer had never held a rod and reel, but took to it quickly. She really enjoys fishing. She just doesn’t deal with the cold very well. That’s a hoot considering she hails from Allentown, Pa.

I don’t think Jennifer is scared of the Bear.:sunglasses:

No she isn’t:) I will not confirm nor deny whether or not we were in his den.

Nice fish! That sure is fun when you get on them like that, 2 days in a row. What were you using for bait?

Way to go Fog! Glad that you and Jennifer had a good trip! Those fish sure look they have been eating well!

I am happy to say my First Mate enjoys fishing as well - though she prefers catching shell crackers and netting stripers. One of the main reasons I bought a Hurricane boat is that it has a changing room in the stern - with a porta-potti. Helps keep us out on the water much longer

Salty, most of us use live blueback herring and gizzard shad pulled on freelines and behind planers and corks. All we had were herring those 2 days. That’s the main forage for stripers in most of the lakes we fish. This time of the year, the herring are spawning in the shallows which draws in the stripers; so herring is always a good choice.

Dano, we are both blessed indeed with wives who enjoy time on the boat. In a month and a half, the school year will be done. We’ll have to get together on Murray or Clark’s Hill sometime.

Thanks for the info Fogman!

Fogman,

Thanks for the offer for a summertime trip - I will take you up on that!

Give me a call if you have a chance - I have an opportunity to fish tomorrow afternoon (Sun 4/26). If wind is not bad, fixing to ride over to Epting’s and buy bait from Joe on the water. Was wondering if you will be out.

Dano, I was in the midst of getting kids back to the buses at Carowinds when you called tonight. We had an alright day despite the weather with our band and choir. I’ll give you a call when I wake up. This was my marathon day with the job. I’ll tell you everything I know… I haven’t been home long at this ungodly hour:)
