Gee guys! Simmer down! All this closure stuff has people on edge. Lets take some deep breaths and realize we are all in this together. Phin, leave up your pictures and report. I have some experience with stuff like this you know.

On a different note. You need a release mount of the snowy. I got a buddy in the business that will hook you up. Cool to have in your trophy room. Get me the dimemsions and I will get a quote. Heck Jeremy needs one in AGAT.

Got everyone together last night for a snowy cleaning and eating party.
The fish will be the first official state record tie since it did not quite make 4+ ounces over the 29 year-old record.
We are just as happy as if it had been though.

first side
a bit of meat
cheviche
some about to get seasoning and parmesean - note the cheeks on the right side of the pan
it was extremely tasty
DNR is aging the fish with its otiliths, and they also got the gonads. It was a male of course. Most larger groupers are males. Red grouper are different, interestingly. Heard from Don Hammond about how they change sex based on population density. Snowies are like most other groupers though. Start out as females then become males when larger/older.
I will report back when we find out the age of the fish.
“They came first for the net fishermen, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a net fisherman;
And then they came for all commercial fishermen next, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a commercial fisherman;
and then they came for the charter and headboat fisherman, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t either one;
and now they’ve come for me the recreational fisherman . . . And now there’s no one but us to speak up.”

Sells is out there chasing the record today. Wonder what he will bring in?

Probably one 3.2 ounces bigger than ours. Wonder whether they’d want him beat the 1981 fish by 4oz or our fish by 4oz?

You said, “gonads”!
That brings up an interesting thought. Will the record be listed as the old weight or the new weight. I understand it will be listed as a tie, but since the new weight is greatest it should be the weight listed.
Either way, congrats on a epic day! I always enjoy reading your reports, too bad they are coming to an end soon.

Good question. So does 30.25 pounds break the record?? IF Phin’s fish is a “tie” I would say yes. If it takes 30.45 to beat the record then Phin OWNS the record out right.
One of those things that makes you say hmmmm.

No idea

I’m just glad someone got the chance to go fishing, and on top of that caught a nice fish. best part of all looked like the meal they enjoyed. great work fellows
I would guess they’d only have to beat the old weight by 4 oz?
It ain’t no mystery…this beer’s history!
