Tigress 12/14 grouper&snapper farewell tour begins

Left the ramp at 5AM and cut through the fog at 16kts until it broke day. Once light, we could see the 5-6ft swells left from last week and some small chop blowing against them. Got nicer as the day went on. Plenty snapper and grouper biting. Water temps still nice and warm. 55-59 degree water out to 50ft and then in the 65-70 degree range out deeper. Missed two big bites. My cousins and I caught 10+ red snapper and over 30 2lb B liners. It won’t be long before they’re nuisance fish…
Sharks are a current nuisance. Lost several weights and a dozen rigs to them yesterday. Couldn’t get any big baits, alive or dead, past the sharks. Divers, we caught another 6ft long sand tiger… it won’t be long before these things are all grown up with all the snapper they’ll have swimming into their mouths due to overcrowding. Be careful.

Anyways,

Caught
limit of ARS (5-7lbs)
3 scamp (6-9lbs)
3 gags (5-8lbs)
limit of C bass (1-3lbs)
16 triggerfish (2-4lbs)
30-40 B liners (all but 2 or 3 were well over legal length if they were not closed)
1 king (19lbs)
1 AJ
1 bonita
1 almaco
2 pinks
a couple ringtails
1 passer crab
1 sand bass
a bizillion atlantic scampnose* sharks
1 sand tiger shark
and a partridge in a pear tree

From what people have told me, sand tigers are mostly just scary looking. I dove with two on the charleston 60 in poor visibility, they got a little curious as I probably had some fish stuff on me from my previous dive, but they were never aggressive towards me, just kept my eye on them. However the regular tiger shark is listed as one of the 3 most aggressive towards shark species along with the Great White, and the bull shark… However enough about the sharks congrats on the killer pull, I wish the seas would slack off a little more so I could get out there.

good report, nice to hear the water temp holding strong. Thanks for the “warning” but where theres sharks, theres fish, and I can’t afford to worry about the toothier of the two… They won’t hurt you as long as your blowing bubbles and serving spring steel.

99% of the sand tigers I’ve dealt with are docile enough to ride anyway. Not saying it couldn’t happen, but there like very big, very deadly, but friendly, stray dogs…

Well Put with the sand Tigers Vic, Like the serving of spring steel, however I don’t think I’d like to take that ride attached to the spring steel, though I’m sure you are freeshafting!

Boat does excellent offshore. The only thing that wets the captain and crew is fog or rain so far… These boats from the 70’s through early 90’s were made right is all I know. Boat is dry and eats it up with tabs. Have to slow down if they are over 3ft and tight. Without tabs, the boat would slam pretty badly as it is heavy in the stern, especially with a full livewell. Does great now.

Was able to run 35-37kts on the way in yesterday. Just big, spread out swells with a little chop in between. Broke the boat’s offshore speed record surfing some of the waves coming in.

You need to spread some of that Contender and late model motor wealth and give me a camera for Christmas.

Scootin, if you were not too good to ride in a “20 footer,” as you call it, then you could take some pictures of bottom fish (caught on rod and reel) yourself…
