Since yesterday was confederate memorial day, I thought itd be a great idea to go catch as many federally-closed fish species as possible to memorialize everything great about losing the war and being part of the greater union.
Us southerners aboard my boat accomplished this goal perfectly by throwing back more than 15 times the fish that we kept. Not because they were too small. Not because they are overfished. Not because they dont taste good cooked in oil, lemon juice, or even water. Not because of the fish color or smell either. It was because the federal government says so and that reason alone.
Let me be specific.
For every red porgy put in the box, there were actually 30+ blackfish caught and released. For every B liner put in the box, there were actually 5+ red snapper caught and released.
NO bait whatsoever could get past the 5lb sea bass in order to catch a scamp or gag grouper of any sort.
So we got tired of confederate memorial day after a while and went and got 6 or 7 strawberry grouper in the box along with some triggers. Also caught some jacks and big bluefish. Also a kingfish that was fun to let smoke around the boat since it was tail hooked. Saw some mahicoryphindoradomavericomauiwowies in a 73-75 degree break, but couldnt get them to eat.
So happy confederate memorial day 2011
