Tigress 7/2/11 - 'take a gamecock fan fishing' day

Well… there was more than one Gamecock fan. I myself am a USC baseball fan. If Tanner coached the football team and the stadium and school were … well nevermind… I cannot pull for Carolina football the way I can pull for their baseball when in the national spotlight.
:stuck_out_tongue:

So I actually let someone wear a Carolina hat on board Tigress Saturday. I think I am getting soft or something. This was a first for the bote. I am normally pretty cautious about what clothing accessories and jewelry, etc. are allowed on a fishing trip. Fireworks or a beach/dinner cruise are one thing. Fishing is another. Don’t know what got into me, but this exception was made for the first time Saturday.

It may have been because the folks were good ol boys from up around Columbia that I have shrimped with before. Two boys and their dad, a CF shrimping forum “cooler is a cooler” champion. This guy’s name is Dragonmouse if you don’t know who I’m talking about. These guys are shrimp cooler machines. I have never heard of them not getting a cooler of shrimp when they go. We will not get into what count shrimp are in the cooler, but they taste great, and a cooler is a cooler.

That is all you need to understand about these guys…

So knowing this about Dragonmouse’s style of shrimping I knew he would prefer the better tasting, easier to cooler out on, smaller fish… Right?

Well, they weren’t that small. And we didn’t limit out on everything like he likes to do when he shrimps. Oh well. What can I do?

We did get to catch a nice variety, and had steady action all day long. There were many tasty fish put into the cooler too.

Left out around 6:30 or 7 after making sure the bote was properly stocked with beverages, snacks, bait, ice and fuel. Got met by a little sea breeze left over but soon became flat. Got almost to the cooler is a cooler waypoint and I saw some fish on the sounder that I wanted to go back and try. They were small, but we pulled some nice baits off the spot before heading a few miles more to the are

My goal this fall is to get a limit of shrimp and gag grouper in the same day. Hopefully both will cooperate enough for it to happen.

You shrimping in the bay this year?

Nice catch. Wish you luck on the shrimp - groupah limit day. The honeyhole is a sure thing on the shrimp.

Hey - mouse is a ElCid dog and that boonie hat still won’t cover all that ugly. He is a good guy - can’t deny that. Man those two boys have grown!

Nice pics too.
