"Tigress" Mako 211 project thread - lots of pics

you have got to put some bracing at teh stern
seriously man that just isnt safe
cut a couple 2x4’s or something

also, pipe lights are about $40, and it keeps the light bracket from getting smacked around

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

How do you guys get the plug on the end of the cords? Do you just splice the wires on the pigtails? I and very electrically challenged, but I don’t like splices. Maybe I just don’t know the prper way.

good job Phin , but please be careful under it.

Any truck stop or truck dealership will have the chrome plastic frames for the lights. They take the place of the rubber grommets, and you will have to use pipe glue or other adhesive to stick them together. The whole fixture with light and plastic frame weighs about the same as my cell phone…

If I had gone with equivalent LED lights in “pipelights,” the cost would have been more than double what I have in these. I enjoy building stuff, so the time I spent putting them together isn’t much of a concern to me.

Here is a pic of the finished product. Sorry about the cell phone camera quality.

I dropped the leaning post off at Happy Bob’s last week, so maybe it will be done this week. Friday, I put in an Airmar thru hull tilted element transducer, Lowrance HDS-8 and Icom VHF. Went fishing Saturday, and the HDS and airmar are awesome. Took the boat for a lunch cruise yesterday also.

Looking for a 15 pitch 4 blade stainless or a 15x17 3 blade. I have a like new 15.25x19 yamaha saltwater series 3 blade if someone wants to swap.

Do you mean the pigtail that connects to your vehicle’s trailer light plug or… ???

I use 3M or anchor heatshrink butt connectors on everything, and then heat shrink tubing over all of that. The anchor brand connectors shrink up and seal faster than the 3M’s. I have tried cheapo heatshrink connectors, and you have to watch out for some of them not having the adhesive in them. YOu want the adhesive liner so it seals everything up water-tight when you heat. I use cheapo heatshrink tubing over each of those connectors and sometimes over a hole wiring harness where I have multiple butt connectors all together. This gives everything extra protection from movement and abrasion damaging the butt connections. I have a picture on another cell phone of my pig tail connection at the trailer tongue after I spliced everything with butt connectors and then heatshrinked tubing over all of it together. I’ll post that and some pix of my ducer install as soon as I can figure out how to get the pix from that phone to my computer.

Here’s what my drop cords and ground wire to pigtail plug connection looks like.

Lowrance power and ground leads with fuse holder and my terminals

New Airmar

I have two 2" wire chases from the console to the bilge, so it was easy to just stick a fishtape in from the console

And out the bilge

2.5" disc of fiberglass

Hit this spot with oven cleaner and scraper. Then, hit it with 400 grit sandpaper and acetone

Hit the inside with a steel brush and acetone

Pulled the transducer cable thru the wire chase conduit. Notice my plug and cable “condom” made from a latex glove. That way duct tape residue or crud from below deck doesn’t screw up the cable.

5200 fast cure and two large channel locks finished it…

I am slowly shifting my efforts to triggers. As long as they don’t close the artificial reefs down, I’ll be okay…

That was a good day. Be careful on who you assign credit to for those triggers.[:0]

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.

i bet triggers aren’t to far down the list…

they’ll probably group them in with the mackerel…

just change your charters to lionfish trips…

Scootin, the rig shown in that picture is proprietary. Remember we went by the bank and had your signiture notarized on that document you signed promising never to reveal any of the trigger-fishing secrets you were to learn that day or thereafter?

Please remove that photo at once, and if anyone asks if you know the secret to catching triggerfish or what triggerfish look like on a sonar… please…

just say no.

Sorry bout that Phin, I will keep the secret bait on the DL if nothing else.

Then again, there are other means for obtaining them. You tend to have some of those brown large mouth bass looking things as by catch.

What does the TV looking screen thing that this is connected to look like?

Thought I would post an update since I have been doing a few things to our bote instead of fishing lately. Went shrimping with dad one day last week in St. Helena and got a cooler full. That’s about it for Tigress lately. Planning on replacing all the wiring and hitting the bottom paint a little more this week and next. Have to relocate the VHF and Sirius antennas to on top now also.

A fellow who is one of the best boat refurb/repair guys I know named Russell Dill has been helping me out. He can do anything you need other than metal or engine work.

T top before carrying to Carolina Custom Rigging for modification.

Electronics box also.

Had to fill in the old rigging tube/side mounting holes since my top will mount in a different location. Sorry I didn’t take more pics. Had to go back and drill out a few little air bubbles and refill and then put lightweight filler over everything to smooth it out. Then painted with Krylon Fusion paint. Plan to sand it down and put a few coats of appliance paint on top of that for a hard and glossy finish. Really impressed with the fusion paint. All I did was sand a little. No primer.

Meanwhile, I flush mounted the VHF.

Here are some pics of the T top after Carolina Custom Rigging did the modifications and fitting. Chip Peagler did the fabric on top. Very pleased with both jobs. The top is extremely strong because of the large cross supports coming down to my console behind the windshield. The GPS/sonar still fits in the corner on top of the console with the cross supports wher
