My boat has been sitting for about 4 months. I go to put her back in the water and I notice that the trim is not working. I fiddle around and figure the battery has died. I hooked it up to a charger and let it charge for about 6 hours. After that time the trim worked fine and the motor would turn over with one turn of the key, figured my battery was the cause. I unhooked the charger after another 2 hours and cleaned up. About 2 hours later all was dead again. I decided the battery was toast so I went and purchased a new battery. After I carefully installed the new battery, making sure that all things were hooked up, I went to trim down the motor and nothing. All the switches work, but trim is dead. I then tested the ignition and it too is dead. Everything else on the boat works, just the trim and ignition. Any ideas??? I have looked for a fuse somewhere, but I can’t find one anywhere. It is a 2002 Suzuki 115 four stroke.
Thanks
Was your old battery confirmed bad?
The old battery was too drained to determin
Throttle in neutral position? Kill switch laniard in place? Does the remote trim switch on the motor operate?

I tripped a circuit breaker when I put a new battery in mine one time. You may want to look for one near the battery.

My brother had the exact same problem one time. It turned out that the wing nuts on the battery post weren’t tightened down enough. Even though they may seem snug, they might need a little extra turn with a pair of pliers. Hope this helps.

When you say everything else works do you mean other electrical components such as lights horn depth finder pumps etc work just not trim and ignition?
Yes, all the other electronics are working. I also tried the trim switch on the motor and it is nonresponsive as well. I tightened the nuts pretty tight, not sure that is it. I find it weird that it is the same condition with both batteries. Makes me think it is fuse or connection somewhere. Throttle is in neutral and the kill switch is in. Any other ideas, this has me stumped.
Could a small amount of corrosion on the neg. terminal cause this?
I think you probably have a grounding issue somewhere. My guess is you have an open ground on these two functions or you have a closed switch which is draining your battery. That would explain why your battery drained to the point of no return. I would start by jumpering around your switches and see what happens. I love trouble shooting but I am far from a tech. This is just what I would do, don’t do anything you aren’t comfortable with. Shops charge 90 bucks an hour for good reason.Good luck.
