posting this for my friend who is having trouble with his outboard. Sounds to me like he needs to buy a new wiring pack.
What do you think?
I’m out of town so I cant go by there and look at it, just seeing if anyone has any input. thanks
Backstory:
Put boat in water everything is good…had to cut motor and use trollin motor due to shallow water at landing (super low tide)…got to deeper water and cranked motor…cruised for 30 feet went to lower motor more and no response (no movement or sound). So motor is stuck in current position until fixed (atleast i can still use boat to fish, just might take awhile to get to the spot).
My Thoughts:
My throttle is wrapped in electrical tape (like a tennis racket grip) to keep it together…So, I removed the tape, which splits the throttle in two: 1)Throttle part, fixed to boat, and 2)other piece, which hangs by the three wires {black, ground;green and blue, up and down} and has tilt/trim control…i noticed that on the inside of the tilt/trim control, where the wires connect (are spliced) to the control is corroded as hell(oxidation/green…looks like wires are black)…i think the corrosion prevents the signal…is this correct? or is there more going on here?
Did a brief search and I’ve seen a few things out there regarding relays, selinoids, motors and fluids
