Tilt/Trim Question

I have a 2006 200hp Yamaha HPDI 3.3L on a 22 Shearwater that I picked up last year and I use a long engine support bracket that attaches to the cross member on the trailer when towing. Basically, its just a long pole with a 45 degree angle that braces the motor and it works great.

The problem is when I trim the motor down onto the bracket and apply load the motor does not want to trim back up. It doesnt click or make any noise at all. At first I though it was just a classic tilt/trim failure but if I raise the jack plate up and turn the motor to the side to release the pressure the motor trims up with no problem. There also appears to be some type of electrical stop in the trim that keeps it from trimming up too far when the jack plate is down to keep it from banging the hoses against the hull if this could be part of the issue.

The question is: What causes this issue and is there a way to fix it since it might be indicative of a bigger problem. Is there a some type of pressure switch in the tilt/trim unit?

Thanks for the help.

THAT MOTOR DID NOT COME WITH A TRIM LIMIT SWITCH, BUT SHEARWATER INSTALLED AN AFTER MARKET MERCURY(AS IN THE ELEMET, NOT THE OUTBOARD)SWITCH TO LIMIT THE TRIM ANGLE. SOUNDS LIKE YOUR SWITCH IS FAILING

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

Thanks for the response. Any idea on where that switch might be located? The google results for “mercury trim switch” are hopeless…
