Someone posted in a thread about weaving the horn shut on his Tim Wade cast net to keep shrimp from getting out. I have done a search to try to find the thread and cannot find it. I would like to see how it’s done.
I didn’t weave mine shut but I took a piece of umhw and attached it to it. I think I have some more at the house if you want a piece of it. It works good for me.
I talked to Mr. Wade earlier in the week. Told him I’d be using the net for shrimping in SC. He said he’d put the 1" something horn on it so the shrimp wouldn’t get out. I went with the 8’ w/ 5/8" mesh.
I’m excited to get it since everyone talks so highly of them. I’m not sure how they can make it and ship it for a little more than $130…
I switched from Superpro to Tim Wade a couple of years ago. Superpro is a good net, but the Tim Wade seems to open better. I’m not sure of the reason for the large diameter horn - maybe the net closes faster on the retrieve trapping the shrimp better? I figure the number of shrimp lost is exceeded by the Wade net opening and closing better = more shrimp. The Wade net does seem harder to reload, as the large horn “gets buried” in the net more often when you are trying to dump the shrimp.
Decided to order the Tim Wade net last week. I can’t wait for it to get here.
I have talked with Tim several times. As folks have stated, he is a super guy to talk to. Said to never use any detergents or fabric softener to try to soften your net. He suggested putting a new net in a black garbage bag with a few shots of water from a hose, tie it up and place in the sun for 20 minutes. Said it will make a big difference.
