My pleasure. It is the least we can do for these folks that provide all us the blanket of freedom and safety we sleep under every night.

For those of you still on the fence if you want to volunteer for this event, think of it this way. You probably wanted to fish that weekend depending on the weather, so why not take a couple extra fishing partners with you? Or, you wanted to fish that weekend but your significant other had other plans like raking the leaves for you to do, this is a great way to get out of house chores for a day if you really need an excuse. I am honored to be doing this and wish they had something like this when I was active duty. The guys/gals I’m taking on my boat are already excited to get on the water, and to me, this is also a way to share our hobby and enjoyment with someone who might not get the chance to fish like we do. Most of these military members are transferred base to base every few years so there is no reason for them to spend the money on their own boats, therefore preventing them from getting the opportunity we can provide for them. One day of your time is all that is needed. Bottom line, it’s a great opportunity for everyone involved, and a great way to get to know a lot of the people on this forum. And don’t forget, Captains, go see Kyle at South Side Bait and Tackle for any bait you need. Just let him know you are a captain for the MAD event. Hopefully he will have time to come see us after the event, he is a great guy and very knowledgeable.

Done. Sorry for being so late in signing-up. I participate last year. took a couple of great guys out, had a great day! looking forward to this year’s event.

I read about last year’s MAD event shortly after we moved to the area and thought to myself…what a great cause and way to give back…if I had a boat I’d be in! Well a new to us boat later and I’d be honored to spend the day with those who defend our freedom…signed up and looking forward to a rewarding experience! If anyone has any non-fishing tips on how to make the day more enjoyable please share!

Gonna sign up today. Hopefully the seas will be cooperative and we can put these guys/ladies on some fish.

How many total boats so far?

Look at where Jesus went to pick people. He didn’t go to the colleges; he got guys off the fishing docks.

FishinMission, I’m not sure the last time it was updated, but according to the MAD website we have 37 boats so far.

Of that there’s 29 boats and 7 surf / pier guys. 36 in total is the latest I have from the Boat Coordinator’s assignments as of last night. The website has a dummy registration we did when we opened it to make sure it was all working correctly.

Are there any provisions for Troops that are traveling a couple of hours to fish? One of my guys is looking for a hotel trying not to spend several $$$ on a hotel after driving almost 3 hours. If I had my house in order I would offer him to stay with but at the moment I don’t have the means. I told him to look into a room in N Chuck or Goose Creek but still going to cost more than I want him to spend to be able to come down and fish…Just trying to get some info, thanks.

“you win some, you lose some…but nothing beats getting some!”

Sorry we missed this until just now. Been pretty much disconnected from the outside world since Friday. I hosted a couple out of town volunteers at my house this weekend. Mine is always open to traveling MAD volunteers and troops. With Charleston and travel, we’ve been unsuccessful at finding a hotel to offer a discount for MAD participants and volunteers. That’s something we need to work on more for coming years if anyone reading this has suggestions or connections.
