Thinking about heading to the GCR later in the week for some crappie, or perhaps bluegill or shellcracker.
Any tips for fishing this, other than the typical “look for brushpiles”? I do not have a fish finder on my boat (yet) so I really am limited to fishing the shoreline and other visible structures.
Planning on taking minnows and various crappie jigs.

GCR is shallow. You don’t need a depth finder. Seriously, just fish the structure you can see. If you don’t get a bite, try another piece of structure. No shortage of brush and stumps in GCR. It is a game of trial and error/ searching.

Thanks duckcommander. Looking forward to it. I haven’t been out on the water before.
Are there any decent catfish in the GCR?

No catfish like the Cooper/Tailrace or lakes. Mostly smallish channel cats with some bullheads here and there.

Thanks. We ended up going to the Hatchery. I got a late start and didn’t want to fight traffic. Didn’t catch much, but then bumped into some guys putting in at the Hatchery that had just left the GCR and they said they didn’t catch hardly a thing.
Fog yesterday was nuts. Hatchery is one eerie (but, still beautiful) place when you can’t see but 30 feet because of the fog.
