Fishing saltwater most of my life I know nothing about fishing a freshwater lake or stream. So I thought you guys would be the best to ask questions about this. Most of my questions are about fishing for trout in streams in upstate SC. First what do I look for when I approach a stream. Went fishing yesterday and caught 10 trout on a rooster tail and had most of my sucess down stream of rapids in calm water that had what I guess you would call current rips. Am I fishing in the right area of the stream or do I need to look for other places. My next question is related to the first. The fish I caught yesterday were all under 8-9". Does the area you fish on a stream have to do with the size fish you catch or do certain streams only have certain size trout. Also do the fish in a stream migrate down stream or do they stay in the same area. Do they get bigger as the summer goes on. Next as I said before I had resonable success on the rooster tail, tried salmon eggs with not much success, so any suggestions to types of bait or color would be appretaited. Also, yesterday with the rooster tail I had the most success casting upstream and then reeling the bait back or across the stream. Is this the most effective presentation. Finally the last question is the places I fished yesterday were above Walhalla(if any of you knows where that is-20 miles north of Clemson) and they were bridges with access to the streams. The streams were maybe 30-40’ across. If anyone has any suggestions on other places to look for streams up here(around Clemson) it would be appretiated. I found some accesses to the Chattooga River yesterday so I may be asking questions later about how to fish bigger water. Well I know this was long but like I said this is a whole different world up here. Any advice would be greatly apprectiated.
