Title for outboard bought out of state?

I am looking to buy an 18 Hp motor from a buddy who lives in North Carolina. The motor has never been registered because they dont need to be in NC. How should i go about getting it registered in SC?

I went through the same thing a few years ago. As long as it has the ID tag(with serial numbers) You can take a close up picture of the tag, make sure the numbers are visible. It would’nt hurt to take a pic of the whole motor. Go down to the DNR office with the photos and a bill of sale.(I also wrote all the serial numbers on the bill of sale) You should be able to register it, no problem. I think it took me all of 10 minutes here in Columbia.
Good luck, Bob

It has the ID tag. I am getting him to write the bill of sale in NC and get it notrized. So i Should take a couple pices and print them with the bill of sale but dont need to bring the motor in? Sounds good. Hope it works out.

you can print a bill of sale off DNR Boat Titling page.

I did’nt have to bring in the motor. As long as you can read the numbers on the photo, you should be good to go. You can also do a pencil tracing of the ID tag, and bring that instead of a picture.
