I am thinking of getting the shimano tld 25 or the penn senator 4/0 wide
I know most will go ahead and say the tld but let me say what I will be fishing for.
Sharks, king macks, tarpon, and just big a$$ fish. (I will be fishing from piers, bridges, and beach.
tld
pros-drag amount, lever drag, light weight, capacity
cons-graphite frame could flex under pressure, not as salt water resistant, drag washers get sticky, and have heard of graphite breaking
sennator
pros-more salt water resistant, metal, and capacity
cons-heavier, star drag(isn’t necessarily bad but levers a little easier), and not as much drag
Whats your opinion? What better fits my needs? All help will be appreciated, thank’s guy’s.
I have both. Don’t think you go wrong with either one. I personal like the lever drag, but I use them for trolling. For your use I think the star drag would be good.

I fish with both TLD 25s and 6/0 Senators all the time and prefer to use the TLDs for most everything. The lever drag makes it easy to adjust the drag pressure when you’re fighting a fish if it’s aboslutely necessary. One thing I’have experienced with the Senators it that it’s easy to knock the star drag while fighting a fish, as I have had some kids do before. I have also had the drag on a brand new 6/0 slip and fail on me while fighting a big jewfish. If you’re mechanically inclined, taking either reel apart isn’t a brain buster, but unless it’s absuletly necessary, I’d recommend to let someone who knows what they’re doing tsake care of it. Both are solid reels and would do you well but if it were me, I’d go with the TLD25. I you are set on the Senator, try and track down a Baja Special 113hn. They have 27 lb max drag as opposed to the 20 lbs of the 113h, have a higher gear ratio of 4.25:1 as opposed to 3.25:1, line retrieval rate of 34 " as opposed to 26". Solid reels.
Plus the new chinese made Senators are crap compared to the US made ones.

Stuck, if you want to throw another reel in the mix check out the PENN Squall LD if you would rather have a lever drag reel instead of a start drag. http://pennreels.com/index.html?http://pennreels.com/conv_squall_leverDrag_index.html

Stuck, what is your budget? Both the Senator and TLD are great reels. When I started kingfishing, I used Senators and I use leverdrags now. They are little easier to adjust when fighting a fish. Some of my fellow fisherman like the star drag and some like the leverdrag. Some advice, pick the reel that is easy to work on and parts are easy to find. I have some reels that I’ve been waiting for parts to come in for a few weeks now.
Ya know, it must be nice living in Neverneverland. Remind me to come visit you, when I need a break from reality.
Thank’s izzydone my budget is about $200 no more. Thank’s every one else and i’ll think I’ll go with the tld. Rapchizzle made a very valid point as Iv’e read other places the new senators are crap.
