To the ledge with Miss Emily 4/18/09 w/pics

We finally decided to give it a shot even though we were questioning the forecast. Good move, it turned out to be a great day on the water. Dove the ledge and fish were everywhere, Marvin landed a six foot tiger shark on his bottomfishing spinning outfit. That was quite the fight on that reel. Greg managed to spear a hefty ARS but he hit it in the gut so it took a little work to get it on the stringer. We had a giant sunfish swim by us near the bottom, this fish was the size of a volkswagon, huge.We ended with a nice amount of B-liners, silver snappers, triggers and some grouper. The water layed down real nice for the ride home, all in all a beautiful day on the water.

Tiger, thats a true man eater right there…those sharks are insane. Awesome ARS, you didnt even need to degut it

Thats a great snapper picture with the “Fish on!” action in the background. What you can’t see is that the guy just to the left of the picture also had a fish on at that time and I was about to hook up. It is often a very good day when you only have to drop anchor once. Thanks to you Greg and everyone else out there today I will be eating good fish for a month. That doesn’t mean I won’t keep fishing during that time though

Looks like Gregg picked another good day. Wish I could have been able to go mabey next time. Did you see any bugs? Had to work on mama’s list today then about mid afternoon she said I’ll bet it was nice out on the water today. I can see by the pictures all had a good time.

Just bought a Big New House, Big New Truck, wife a SUV & Big Screen TV… NO I can’t afford it Just trying to qualify for Some of that Bailout money from Uncle Tom so we can get a BIG NEW BOAT!!

Did the pictures of the Portuguese Man or War turn out at all? That symbiot looked wicked cool.

I found the pic of the man o war, its just left of the prop in the pic. When I posted last night I was dead tired. There were jellyfish everywhere yesterday, from top to bottom. On our first dive Ricky and I both had tentacles draped across our face so we spent the entire dive with this stinging sensation, these were just regular jellies not the man o war. I think the 64 degree water helped sooth the pain a little though.

Lets not forget this part, the most fun of the day after fishing and diving when you’re already exhausted, cleaning the boat.

Another shot of Greg’s ARS

We finally figured out the forecast we watched all week of 4 to 6 footer at 6 seconds, really meant 4 to 6 inches at 20 seconds. We are reading the forecast incorrectly. We ended up keeping about 6 grouper, 3 ARS, my mac daddy ended up weighing 25lbs. I gut shot her and while standing on the bottom of the ocean she was pulling me around. I had to tackle her before she work off the spear. So I grabbed her by the gills and swam to the boat. We kept about 50 silver and vermillion snappers. We had action about all day. We did not see any lobsters this time. We looked but mostly chased fish.

good catch, we were in 98’ when you come by us and fished that area most of the day. the water was great on the surface, clear, just wondering what the viz was like? we charted tons of fish in that area and caught lots of 6" bliners, ringtails and grunts when we dropped a sibiki rigs down. ended the day with about 50 good bsb’s, pinks and bliners, just no snappers or groupers, sounds like we should have taken our underwater fishing gear!

If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.

Bug Catcher, I could make out the bottom at 50ft. We saw a lot of grouper mid size, there were alot of red sapper, tons of ring tails, few BSB. The grouper stayed up in the ledges and rocks. We had to force them out of hidding. I miss a couple of large gags, there were very shy.

Carry a bottle of vinegar with you next time and pour it over the skin with the stingers. It will keep the stinging cells from firing.
If you ever get hit by a Man 'O War, you will thank me for this pro tip…

“Never argue with an idiot…he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.”

Sounds like a great trip and a productive piece of bottom. Is that the same place you were last week? You guys sure are tearing up the fish!!
