After a month of not fishing, I’m finally going to the lake tomorrow, with my neighbor & Porkchop. Any suggestions on areas to try? We’re thinking about putting in at # 3 or # 4 & fishing up from there. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Bob

Good luck, I was planning on going fishing tomorrow as well, but I’m starting to feel like that may not be possible … Stupid cold/flu/crude or whatever is going around …
May not be helpful with where you are planning on going, but I’ll share what I found in Ballentine today between 11 and 2. Worked the shallows diligently with some boards and a cork. No action at all. Decided to check out a 16 foot hump with 25 foot water plus all the way around that’s in the middle of the creek. Stacked with fish (possibly all Shorts) from the bottom (30 to 20 feet) up to about 10 feet. They weren’t aggressive, but at least I caught some and missed some. Weatherman missed a little on temperature, clouds, and wind.
Bob, I called them a couple of months ago and got a recording saying they were only planning a “normal drawdown” this winter. I wonder if things have since changed.
Not a great day yesterday. It started out when I went to start the motor before leaving the house.(I always make sure she fires up every time before I go out) No water coming from the pee hole. I hadn’t started it since Christmas, so my first thought was something had froze up during the sub-freezing cold we had. I tried to run a wire through but it only went in about 1/2". Next step was pull the(pain in the butt) 3 piece cowling off. I saw how the tube was routed and proceeded to hook up the air compressor. After a couple of shots of air, I started it up again. Yahoo! Water flowing freely. We hooked up & loaded the boat & headed out at 9:30. Got a couple dozen nice shad from Better Bait & off we went to SCE&G # 3.
We were just getting ready to back in & a young guy got ahead of us to load his boat. No biggie, we thought. Shouldn’t take too long for him to load up. Wrong! There were two other young guys on the boat & they were trying to get the boat on the trailer with the trolling motor. Big motor was tilted up. After about 20 minutes of rope throwing & missing, they finally pulled out. Could’ve gone a lot quicker if one of them would have volunteered to get a little wet. Come to find out, the guy had forgot his keys. Okay, We’re finally in the water heading out to the channel. Going slow, just seeing if we could mark any fish. After about 5 minutes, my buddy says “Hey Bob, We’ve got water in the boat!” I looked back and water was almost to his ankles. Someone forgot to put the plug in. (Yes, it was me.) I sped up to help suck the water out, then remembered, You dummy, you’ve got a bilge pump. Turned it on and several minutes later, the water was gone. Mike reached over the transom & put the plug in. Good to go! That’s the first time I forgot to put the plug in since I’ve owned the boat.
Now for the fishing report:
NADA, nothing, zip, not even a bite!
Gave up about 1:00 & went back to the ramp. The only thing caught was a slight beer buzz.
Hey Bob: just as there are two types of people who have irrigation heads in their yards and cut a couple off with the lawn mower there are also all of us that sooner or later we will leave the plug out.been there done that more than once back in the days of having smaller boats. glad you got out
I did that with just me and the then 7 year old son in the boat on a cold winter day. Coulda been bad. Raced to get on the trailer as it took about 5 min to get all the water flushed out. I leave my plug in 100% of the time.

Years ago, when I lived in Daytona, I had a little 12’ jon boat with a 6hp. It leaked a bit, so I got in the habit of pulling the plug while under way to drain the water. I got stopped by the DNR for no registration sticker. After several minutes everything was straightened out & I was nervous as heck because I had a couple of illegal smokes rolled up in my tackle box. That was the only thing I was thinking of. He looked down and said “I better let you get going, looks like you’re taking on water.” I looked down & had water up to my shins. Didn’t even realize it. I told him thank you sir & got going. It must have taken me 30 minutes to get all the water out. (and my smokes were still dry!)

Years ago I had an Allison bass boat that didn’t have an overflo on the live well and would forget to cut off the pump. one time we almost sunk the boat. I have a water alarm in my Bertram offshore boat.
