Now and again the net brings up a Mantis shrimp, crabs, sticks, squds, eels, and stuff I ain’t exactly sure about. While goofing around in Walmart I saw a padded tong in stainless steel. Picked up one and carried it shrimping. For me, the thing made flinging non-shrimp by catch easy. No more chasing crabs down one side of the boat and them chasing me back up the other side. Just a quick ■■■■■ with the tong and over the side they go unhurt. Same with small fish and other by catch. This was the first trip I didn’t get finned or speared. Teflon pad makes it easy on them.
Never buy anything from Wal Mart.

Oh yea. That reminds me. I bought a battery from Walmart 2 years 8 months ago. It was in the truck on this trip to Georgetown. It died. I jumped the truck, drove over to Walmart, pulled the battery and carried it to their service desk. No receipt and just an idea of where I bought it. They scanned the battery and 10 minutes later they gave me a new battery. I headed on out shrimping. Some things they do right.

I gotta disagree with that - A large portion of my fishing gear is from walmart. I shop through there clearance section all the time and get new rods/reels/lures/hooks/weights etc… I’ll see the hooks I like or weights or something in the clearance and I stock up.
Most of the stuff you can buy there is “Junky” for things like Fish Scales, pliers etc. I agree - But i’d rather have 6 or 7 pairs of mediocre pliers floating around my boat so they are always handy - than 1 great pair. Heck I have some junko pliers that have started rusting. - I take em home and throw some WD 40 on em and they are good to go… I’ve even been known to re-dip the rubber grips on the handles etc. rather than replace them
I’m cheap. Oh well.
Way to hijack the thread.

I love this thread…
F- Walmart!
Not just because of the lack of quality, but because of the soul that you lose as you pay.

I second that.
to each their own. most of those that downplay wal-mart because of imports, etc. probably drive foreign vehicles. talk about double standards. i like walmart mainly because i can usually find what i am looking for in the grocery section and they match all sale prices. saves me and my family a good bit of money that i unlike obviously some on here do not have as extra.
Since this thread has been hijacked, I will add my 2 cents!
NO one is forced to shop at Walmart. There is a great deal of criticism of the company, but there is never any mention of all the money that is donated and all the hours that are given freely by employees to worth while charities. Not to mention where all these citizens would work if it were not for Walmart.
Now I feel better.

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.
If it were me, I’d go to a fancy gourmet shop like Williams-Sonoma and buy really expensive tongs.

Sorry for these two cents,I really just want to fish!
Not forced??????
Look at all the businesses they closed by opening supercenters everywhere!!! At first they were “American made supporters” with great return policies…Now they sell junk and are tightening their return policies…What makes it so bad is that the retailers still in business are also forced to buy Chinese cheap to compete…
Go to sears.napa advance etc etc and try to buy a tire pressure gauge not made in China.
Remember ROSS Perot???The great swooshing sound??? USA politicians and their special interests have and are continuing to destroy us!!
The voters allowed all this to happen!I will never learn Chinese (wish I could say the same for my grandkids).

dfreedom; pick me up a pair also. to hell with paying a reasonable price for a pair that does the same thing at 1/6 the price. they all will rust anyway;
as far as walmart closing businesses; they did not close the first one. it was the small business man’s decision not to lower his prices to reasonable that mostly led to their demise. i do agree that walmart took some of their business but not all of it. why does nobody ever diss k-mart, home depot and lowe’s. k-mart was the first of the big box stores. they started in the early 60’s . they were also super customers of mine in the private label and vigoro fertilizer business. their purchasing products from us allowed me to support my family in a decent manner. i am all for free enterprise however; i am also envious of those that think of these ways to make money before i do. ha ha ha
Thanks should be given to anyone’s employees donating their time to worthwhile charities. Unfortunately, Walmart hasn’t historically thanked their employees by offering reasonable benefits to them, holding them all at part-time. Exploitation of the igorant.
Sam built a brand that America trusted, passed on and those who took it over have used that brand to drive out any commitment to their employees or customers for that matter. As I read this yesterday, I googled facts about Walmart, 2013 and it looks like their practices have become public enough and the negative impact to the bottom line is significant enough that they are considering changing them. We’ll see where that goes. Rebuilding that brand shouldn’t take much, the majority of America will forgive the “low price” big box store for their mistakes instead of sticking with the local guy.
I drive a Toyota, so does my wife. Both of these Japanese vehicles were made in the US by Americans.
Here are some facts about Walmart. Consider them as you ponder the idea that nearly none of their employees had company sponsored healthcare and that your savings at the register didn’t actually account for total cost of the product because you covered their healthcare via taxes. Costco’s average salary on the other hand is somewhere around $23.
