Tonight 7/20

Think Im gunna give it a shot tonight. Anyone have any location suggestions? My choices have not worked out too well the past couple times out. Ill be putting in at the dam.

I’ve had trouble locating fish the last few trips too. Which is odd because this is usually the easiest time of year to find them. A month ago three of us on a boat landed 68 with 11 keepers. Since then I have not been able to get more than 8. This time of year I would always find fish above the trees out from jakes and up around spence but there are only a few scattered ones lately.

i have no clue. but gonna try wed night. shoot us back a good report. good luck.

Glad it ain’t just me. Like steely says, I’ve always considered this to be about the easiest time of year to find fish, but I’ve not caught a legit keeper the last couple of times out, which were both trolling at night…usually a prety sure way to catch some fish this time of year. I fished 11:00 till 1:30 last night without a hit.

There was a boat said they had a few small keepers when I came in and they said they got them at 60’, but I’m not sure where they were fishing. I think they might have been at the towers.

I’m gonna go back to bait fishing next time out. Possibly in the morning if i don’t get off too late.

BTW, someone gave me a u-rig and I don’t care to use them. Not worth enough to make it worth posting, but if anyone local to Irmo wants it, you can have it. It’s just the rig w/leaders ready to add swim baits or buctails.

I just got back from a cruise from 1:30-8:00pm. I’m still giving fiends and family rides in the new 02 Sea Pro. I have a Raymarine fish finder that I’m getting used to operating. We idled around everywhere from Spence Island to Jakes to the towers into the sailboat yacht club. The fish were stacked up several places thick. On the east side of Spence Island, at the mouth of Jakes, the north and south side of the towers, and heading in to the landing at the dam before you get to the first drop off. Some places I expected to see fish I didnt. Some places I was suprised to see them. They were all on humps and drop offs though. Trees had fish stacked in there too. I didnt bring a rod, so pooey on me. Tomorrow I’ll be back out there with some more kids. Hope yall catch um.

Skunked! I did have several hits just couldnt get one on. I did mark some fish but they seemed scattered and only saw a couple of what I think are decent schools. Fish I marked were in front of the towers, about 1/4 mile out from the towers, and where the deep water starts out from the dam landing.

I did notice one thing, I marked fish streaking up on the screen toward my baits (I can see the weights on the FF) then nothing would happen. This brings me to a question. What weights and leader lengths do yall use? Ive been using a 4oz egg sinker with about 2 ft of 20lb fluorocarbon leader. This is a larger sinker than ive used in the past and im considering switching back to smaller weights and trying to control the boat more since I think I may be spooking fish. What do yall think?

I usually try to go with as light a sinker as I can get away with…usually about 1 1/2 oz. If you are drifting and it’s taking a 4 oz sinker to get your baits down where u want you may want to do like you said and control the boat speed more… if you are drifting a large area, a big drift sock works well…or just use your trolling motor into the wind to slow your drift down.

Were you drifting last night? I stopped by the dam on the way home about 9PM and the wind looked like is was blowing pretty good.

i use a 1oz lead and a 3’ flouro leader. but i move extrmely slow. i make sure my lines are always straight down so i know where my baits are and not guessing what depht because my lines are at an angle. if i am circling the towers it usally takes at least 45min or longer to make a complete trip around. may or may not make it out tonight. i didnt feel like draggin boat to work today so if i do that means i gotta have a good feelin to get the boat after work lol

I was out there, headed in around 10 or so. I had red interior lights on. Think Im gunna go back to the smaller weights and use some longer leaders and probably even go to some smaller hooks as well to try and stealth out the whole rig a little bit.

I use 1.5 oz egg sinker with about a 2’ leader. I use 10# leader, 20# is pretty heavy for Murray. I think my motor is shot so I won’t be out for a while. I have zero compression on two of my cylinders

well steely; i guess it is up to me to keep you on the water. my boat is ready to go. i changed out the wiring harness on the trailor;put l e d side markerlights on and we need to catch some fish. give me a call and we can plot against the stripers.

Why did you have to change out all the wiring?

he had a short in the wire somewhere. Probably inside of the tube steel.

what it rally came down to was when i changed out the fenders last month i accidentally crimped one of the wires under the head of a fender bolt. it eventually shorted out but was undetectable due to the location of the bolt. anyway; after several days of disgust i just decided “to hell with it” and changed out the entire harness and added led lights. at least i now have new stuff that replaced the nine year old stuff. should work for a while.

I thought you super smart son just replaced all of it??

that is right oh super smart so. it was just abut one year old but your dumb#$@ dad pinched it with a large bolt head. go ahead and beat me up in front of all of these people. don’t you know that i have feelings. keep it up and there goes your inheritance. i had planned to leave you most of my bills but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. now you are out.HA HA HA
