Out on the water with the old man and the siblings around 7am… cast around for bait, slow start, but shrimp started to add some size and numbers after about a 1/2 hour and a change of location…
We all ended up on the board-
My sister got a small skate and a spot tail pup and a bunch of near misses
My brother got 4 trout, and had a nice one up to the boat that got unhooked on a botched netting attempt
My dad had 6 trout between four spots
I got 7, 5 trout (gator trout ~ 18") 2 reds…
Other than the gator, we didn’t see any fish above 13.5", and what made today peculiar is 1. We’ve never done that well this early in the hot season, and 2. all our trout were caught in our red spots and vice-versa.
Great day, wind picked up a bit as the day progressed, but we found some good spots sheltered from the wind…
I guess the one thing I’m still looking for is diversifying my catch with different baits. Today I used live shrimp, mud minnow, cut mullet, whole finger mullet, and Gulp, all under a cork, and all 7 of my fish came from the live shrimp… I’d love to get some tips on how to use these other ones or if it’s just a matter of right place, right time.
Tight lines…
