So I tried Toogoodo for a few hours yesterday. Put in at the Toogoodo Boat Landing. Not much parking but was easy in & out. Saw lots of bait mostly larger mullet & tons of small shrimp. I threw grubs on jig head and topwater without a single bite for at least 2hrs. Then got a couple of mullet when tide turned & started coming in. Saw a bonnet head feeding in the shallows, a few small rays, and even got to see 3 dolphins launch themselves on the bank feeding on mullet. I saw a ton of bait on my depth finder so I decided to anchor up & try the cut mullet. I hooked what I assumed was a ray that almost spoiled me before breaking off. Caught a big whiting & couple of small rays.
Nice day but, I would really love to figure this area out, it’s like 40 min from house with little traffic both on & off the water. If anyone has any experience or pointers fishing this area or even advice on learning a completely new area I’d love some input. I’d love to have a place to fish for reds & trout without so many boats in the summer. Appreciate any feedback.
You are correct about less boat traffic being in that area. But it won’t stay that way for long. Anyway, there are several spots in both directions from the landing. Just look for live oyster banks along the edges of the creek with water running behind the banks. Then if you go out to Wadmalaw sound the grass along the north side of where the Toogoodoo opens to Wadmalaw sound is pretty good especially on the outgoing tide.
Good Luck
Sea tonic, really appreciate it!
I will definitely look for those characteristics. I’m just relieved to hear people catch redfish & trout in that area. Had someone tell me it’s not worth it, it’s overrun with sharks & rays. I have week off in a bout 10 days so I hope to spend a couple of solid days exploring and trying to locate some fish out there. Ill also look up wadamala sound and see where that’s located! Thanks again!
