Had the worst time trying to find Menhaden yesterday. I spent 2.5 hours looking everywhere, shipyard creek, Ft Sumpter, Ahley River, Suyllivan Island…water smooth as a mirror, NO POGIES! I finally decided to run out with dead bait and give it a try. We were met by a smooth ocean, and ran at 41 mph out! Got to 120’ found fish…cuaght fish! Had an interesting current yesterday, it was running dead into the swells and against the wind. We got the usual mix, Scamps, B-liners, triggers, Pink…I mean cut bait, jumbo BSB’s (dads favorite) and one little peanut that hung around to long. Got to see a 55 lb Dolphin being filletted at DI marina, Stud Fish!

I did not find any, last week it took me 2 casts and the well was full of 8" pogies. I saw some in one creek, but flipper was hammering them, and they would not stay on top.

Triggerfish are on every piece of good bottom out there. The trick is a small hook (owner #2), spinning rod, and small pieces of cut bait. I fish a two or three hook rig, and it is not uncommon for them to hit it on the way down. I let the line slip through my fingers as it is falling, and when I get the first “tap” I stop…game on.
