Set up on the flat near Pitt St bridge on the edge of the harbor hoping to hook up with a nice red. I was soaking live menhaden and a 1/2 crab. Crab near the deep run , menhaden free lined about 50 yards out.
Phone rings and it’s Jordan wondering if I want to shepp fish when the crab rod goes ZZ ZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZING. Uh, Jordan, gotta go, I got something on the other line.
I tighten the drag a bit and it’s still singing. Time to unhook from the anchor for the sleigh ride. I pt a little pressure on the fish and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ with the drag medium tight and me being towed along for the ride. I decided it’s time to tighten down the drag and reel up to see what I’m hooked to, red , sting ray, or what.
Reel up close and a big tan dorsal fin comes out of the water. Then the tail comes up and they’re about 3or 4 feet apart[:0][:0][:0]. Reel a little closer and see I’m hooked to a 6 foot sandbar or dusky and I’m in a 12 foot Native Ultimate… time to cut loose and let him swim before I do.
WHAT A HOOOOOT!!! Andrenaline pumping sleigh ride.
Sorry no pics, I was interested in staying out of the water.
