I’m loving the wealth of info I’ve been finding on these forums! The search function works rather well but I didn’t come across a thread like this so I wanted to pose this question to yall…
If you could bring only 5 flies out on the flats this summer for spottails, what would they be?
Drop one or more of the spoons/copperheads depending on which jerms option you choose and replace it them with those copperhead crabs.

2 copper colored copper heads, 2 black colored copperheads, and a dahlberg diver for when they so shallow their eyes are poppin out of the water. honestly don’t think that i’ve caught tailers on any fly except the copperhead, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
hmmm… I try and stay away from the common. Why? Just cause, if you know what I mean. So I would say a custom seaducer in brown and grizzly, deer hair spun mullet style slider fly, epoxy head fly with grizzly tail, a Chico river shrimp knock off, and perhaps a small Lefty style popper. All tied by me. Of course next year would be a different group; even the end of the summer will be a different group. I just like trying different things. Keeps it interesting.
I’m liking fishbrains ‘happy summer mix’. Especially like the custom seaducer. Buuuuutttttt, there is a reason Bob Clouser’s name is so well known. I would never leave the dock without a clouser in my flybox.
I love crab patterns with copper flash. I also like patterns that create max movement with little to no current. Rabbit, craft fur, schloppen (sp) and Maraboo are all great for this. Hell, Redfish aren’t too picky as long as you work your fly right.

dont forget 2 of the simplest to tie:kwantype flies in differnt sizes, colors and sinkrates, and gartside gurglers… all with sevenstrand sevalon 27lb weedguard

if they can see it and it looks like food leaving they take it to the colon most of the time.
I suppose you can look at the original question a couple different ways. If you were stuck on a deserted island of pluff mud and could only have 5 flies to catch redfish what would they be? Certainly the clouser, seaducer, top water popper, kwan fly, and small spoonfly would likely be in my box. But I like variety, and variety that changes at that. As mentioned above, redfish eat pretty well so that allows me to experiment with different patterns looking for better splash characteristics, better weedless features, better water column presentation, better profile, an easier tie, etc. So while I have had clousers, copperheads, spoonflies, and kwan flies in my box, I have moved on to other things to give a try. I should admit that they do occasionally sneak back in in some form or another. However this is more a testament to the statement that “there is nothing new under the sun” rather than a backsliding on my account. Good patterns are just good patterns, no doubt about it and using a hint of them in a new tie honors the originator in some way I suppose.
