Top Water is to much fun

5 am Top Water bite was on Friday

Perfect conditions ? low wind, out going tide and rising barometer

On the water by 4:30 am and back in by 8:00am -

Get out of bed + beat the heat

Capt Dave

Very nice! How big was that trout?

Connor Malark

In the photo:
Trout was almost 17"
Red Fish was 21"

Caught three Reds and two trout

Kept the first two for dinner all others released in good shape

Capt Dave

Tell me the top water secrets. What are you using, when, conditions, etc.? I love to fish top water when freshwater fishing but have had little luck in saltwater. I usually fish Gulp 4" white swimming mullets on a jig head or a Storm swim bait nearer to low tide. I am not much of a live bait guy. I like to be actively casting all the time. Open to advice.

  1. Cast plug.
  2. Vary retrieve until you catch fish.
  3. Repeat.

Those plugs are battle scarred! Love it!
+1 on the upgraded hooks

TOP WATER

I like to launch about 4:30 am this time of year I never fish in the heat of the day

It seems to me Top Water walking the dog works well until the sun gets up over the tree line and it seems to stop

I get 4 hits to every one hook-up ? but the swooshing sound in the dark is magic to me

Incoming tide at creek mouths work best for me

It all starts around 5AM but trout bite can start about 4am

This is where I fish other locations may vary

Capt Dave

Thanks much. Will try all that next time.
