I have wanted a bolt action .223 for the last couple years and am finally ready to get one. Being in college I don’t have ton to spend on one so I was looking more entry level rifles. I will mainly use it for coyotes and just general target shooting. I am hearing good things about the savage axis and I really like the price point for it. The main downfall I have seen for it is the trigger, but I have seen some mods people did to help that. Does anybody have any experience with this rifle or recommendations of others? Thanks in advance

Might want to look at the Ruger American too. I bought the compact model for my daughter a few months ago. Has an adjustable trigger which is pretty smooth.
Cabelas Savage 11VT I think is what they call it. Heavy barrel in .223 for $379.00

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Gander Mountain today and a bunch of rifles on clearance. Didn’t look at them much, but there was a pile of them. Might be worth checking out. Lots of savage and Mossberg type stuff.

went to the Cabelas in Fort Mill today and they were sold out. Was about to leave and saw the Ruger Americans and held one. I ended up with the Ruger American Predator. I really liked the feel of it and the heavier barrel vs the regular model Americans. Now to get a scope and load some bullets to see what it can do.

Weaver Super Slam. Best value for the dollar out there. Natchez Shooters Supply normally has them on a sale. Every bit as good optically as a VX3, better glass etched reticles, illumination, good magnification ranges, easy to set to zero turrets and 1/2 or more the price of Leupold. Source glass for both is LOW in Japan, specs are identical.

Anyone on here load their own bullets for 223? I have the dies on the way and bought some 65 grain sierra gamekings and 69 grain matchkings to try. Also picked up some IMR8208 to try since I have heard it was good for 223. Will try these and some more to see what I can get out of it and was just curious what others had good luck with.
