Topsail Island?

Anyone fished much up there? My dad recently opened a small office and does a lot of work out of there now, and i’ll be working with him this summer and hope to fish on my off time.

I’ve fished just above that area 10 or so miles by water. Lot’s of flounder at the inlets this time of year, nice ones too.

I did not target/catch many reds, though I’m sure they and trout were around. Bait was kinda hard to catch till I found a small secluded marsh pond.

BTW, their local oysters and scallops are jammin’

Fished in a little oyster bay north of topsail on intracoastal, alligator bay maybe. Decent reds at lowrise early in am, fairly certain it gets gillnetted from time to time though.

Thanks guys

Fished up there for years. Flounder are a plenty. Fish any creek mouth that is emptying into the ICW also drift the new river inlet. Also caught plenty of gray trout just off the beach where the old fishing pier was on the MC base. Head out the new river inlet, head north until you see the old pier go out 200 yards or so and jig spoons.

Thanks Opps, I have heard there is a nice flounder population up there

MN95, I’ve caught more nice flounder there then anything else. Oh one last place I forgot to tell you about. By the Marine Corps base there is a place called Howard bay and then there is a small creek that connects to Mile Hammock Bay. Drift the creek and fish the edges of Howard Bay. Be careful getting into howard bay. There is a sand bar you have to cross and it will jump up and get you if your not careful.

Used to fish up there and gigged lots of founder…fun times

Thanks for the info guys

The best flounder fishing I have ever done was in the south Topsail Inlet(whatever it’s called) on July 4th wknd in the mid '90s.A buddy was there for a week with family and invited me down from Raleigh. We couldn’t find any finger mullet and few mud minnows, but we caught 2 ~15" mullet and fished strips on plain carolina rigs drifting right in the inlet in the middle of the day with party boats and jet skis running all around. There is a drop off from ~12ft to ~20ft on the incoming tide.We caught more than 30 flounder each 2 days in a row.I haven’t caught that many on hook&line the last 10 YEARS here in Chas.We didn’t think about the limit, size or creel,we were just glad to be catching flounder. When we were pulling anchor the last day,a NCWRC officer pulled up to us and wanted to see registration and safety equipment only.We were sweating bullets LOL.He told us as he left that he didn’t ever check fish because he didn’t have jurisdiction in sw.Go figure.NC is a strange state when it comes to managing inshore fisheries.Good luck up there!

Thanks Capt. Eddie, I hope maybe to have a day like you guys!
