I recently took a new job and am currently under my “90 day probation” so I honestly thought my dolphin season was over before it ever started this year… Luckily I had a Former co worker that moved to the Wrightsville beach NC area called and we went back and forth on whether or not to try it Saturday morning (6/4). long story short, I left Summerville @ 8pm Friday night. Arrived at his house sometime after 1a.m. and we left for the dock at 4a.m. one slow down after another and we finally put lines in @ around 8a.m in apprx 120ft. sea were rougher than as expected but we figured that going in so we dropped baits shallower than we hoped for…
Landed 3 cows, all which had eggs several knockdown/short strikes… missed at least twice as many as we caught. We even had fish come into the spread look at the baits and turn away… Ive never had a mahi not eat when they come up…? All in all fairly slow, but not bad for a couple of rookies… This being the first mahi blood in his first offshore boat so we consider it a win! lol Did get to see a really nice bull come screaming across the top of the water w his head halfway out, cut across the whole spread and ate the outrigger. Clip popped, drag screams, get the rod and come tight, and he spit the hook…
still pretty cool to watch tho!
