Fished last week and took Ralph Frigeon and his nephew to go wear out the redfish. We fished live shrimp and minnows under a cork and blistered the reds with a few trout and ladyfish in the mix! Started throwing topwater as the tide dropped out further and managed to catch seven or eight on a variety of plugs including the super spook jr, badonk-a-donk, and new Tsunami topwater plugs. Most of the reds were four pounds and up with the biggest being about nine pounds. Highlight of the day was a treble hook in the nephews arm!! He accidentally dropped one of the reds with a topwater plug, thus the plug then being lodged in his arm… Had to push two of the hooks through and cut them… Definitely a first for me!! Ended the day with about thirty reds, two trout, and two ladyfish!

I know your pain. Had a Trout I was holding get excited back in June and the last thing through my hand on his way to the deck of the boat was the treble hook on the Mirro Lure…straight in my finger. I’m with Stonoman. They come out a lot better that way.
Most of the hook problems come when the plug hangs up and you do the jerk thingy. It flies right back at you.M<aster the technique of plugs and you will have no problems.Lay any fish hooked down and use something to remove the hook.

Two things: first, learn to push hook thru and cut off barbs, second, don’t go to the Roper emergency room they cost me $580 back when I first moved here, and another thing, always carry hydrogen peroxide and alcohol on the boat. I’ll bet the Nason places would not charge like that.
