Topwater

After taking the topwater class at Haddrells I couldn’t wait to go try it. So yesterday I tried it out. I had many blow ups and caught 3 nice size trout and one small red. I think I found my favorite way to fish. There is nothing more exciting than to watch fish jump you topwater lure.

Here is the red. Sorry I didn’t take any pictures of the trout. They are in my freezer:stuck_out_tongue:

My next goal is to try the TT. Anyone have any advice on how to work the lure?

Did you catch the cat on top???

On the TT: The instructions on the pack pretty much say it all. They are:

  1. Rig on 1/8 oz ball type jighead
  2. Cast 8 lb line, allow to fall straight down, on semi slack line, to bottom.
  3. With rod pointed at lure, reel in slack and give two jerks to bring lure up several feet. (In shallow water, jerk to side). Let fall straight to bottom.
  4. Set hook, play fish
  5. Reload, repeat.

The key is “Semi-slack line”. This means you are not pulling the lure, but it doesn’t mean you can have 4 feet of bow in your line. Just barely loose. “Manage your line!”

Thanks Optiker. Also is Haddrells the only place to buy them?

Yes the cat hit the top water when I had the lure sitting for a sec to take a drink.

That’s a first, never heard of a cat on TW. Congrats! and Wow!

I think TT’s are available at HPT and CA. The “originals” I have no idea how long they will be available. I think the Zman version is still a little ways out.

I was in the new Palmetto State Armory store yesterday and they had just received their first shipment of TT. Been curious about these myself. Doesn’t look like much but the fish love’em. Hopefully Z-Man doesn’t tinker with it too much next year. If it ain’t broke…

Earn it everyday…

aint no dam way!! cat on tw thats awesome!!

Nice Catch! Cant wait to go and try the TT. From what I’ve read and seen it looks like it will catch just about anything the inshore has to offer.

Hell surprised me as well. If I didn’t have my rod in my hand I would have lost it. I have actually caught cats while trolling stretch 25’s. I was going for stripers but for some reason the cats like me.
