Decided that the south wind would put just enough water onto a flat that I haven’t fished for a while. So I loaded up the yak and headed a few miles North on 17.
Hit the water and the tide was REALLY POURING IN!!! There was water on the flat over an hour before high tide. The wind was a little more than I hope for (Note to self: Got to get a job as a weather man… never have to be right )
As I poled the Ride 135 across the flat there were several times I could have reached down and scooped up reds with my net. They didn’t spook, they just sat there unless I poled up right against them… Bad news was that they wouldn’t eat either… they just sat there like it was January on a mud flat.
I got out of the grass and started worked a deep cut next to an oyster bank and picked up one flatty. It was about 15 inches, released to get a little bigger.
When the tide started dropping I moved to the grass edge to see if I could get a bite from a red coming off the flat. picked up a slottie.
Noticed the water was going away like someone pulled the drain plug on the ocean, so I bugged out.
One of my Okuma Trios locked up today after way too many trips over the past 2 years. took it apart, washed everything, soaked all the parts in WD-40 then wiped them down, oiled and reassembled… Good as new.
Didn’t even lose the itty bitty little anti reverse spring this time
