Went out to fish the high tide on the wando saturday with bro and my buddy and his dad in law. The wind was kicking pretty good and the fish had lock jaw.
My bro got a couple sardine sized trout and also lost a big red in the grass. That was it!
Sunday way kinda tough too. Took a client out and we did manage to find some fish. He got an inshore slam and caught the biggest trout I’ve seen on the Wando this year. Micro trout were constantly nipping at our baits, so let’s all pray for a mild winter.
Got some redemption last night. Got a flounder on the beach on Sullivans. 17", released to fatten up for later this fall. I would have kept it but I had taken a piece of dolphin out of the freezer for dinner last night so I wasn’t fishing for dinner.
TB- I’ll second your “prayers”! I don’t know how you kayaker’s do it in the winter, that’s just a little to wet and cold for me. I’m like a trout in cold weather!
Yakking is all about prepartation. The motto is rig to flip, dress to swim. Once the water temp drops you’ll see me in waders with a dry top and a warm change of clothes in a dry bag along with other essential cold weather goodies.
that ^^^ right there is also good advice for those boat fisherman who occassionally miss step into the winter waters. you know who you are.
after penfishin’s admonition last winter, I bought some of those vacuum suck-it clothes bags and packed a full change, shoes and all for the winter. i was surprised how many times i had to break the seal and dispense dry stuff.
