My old tow vehicle, 98 Ford Expedition, has pulled its last boat. Time to shop for something. I found a 2004 Ford Explorer with a V8 with the tow package. I would think it would pull my 19 Sea Pro. Anyone use an explorer as a tow?

mspm47 - i have the same boat and i used to pull it with an older ( 1998 ) ford explorer with a 6 cylinder. no long trips on highway , but short pulls from house to the landing were no problem at all.

Thanks Traebaum. That is good to know. We “usually” tow less than five miles to our ramp but we are thinking about venturing to other areas.

I use a Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder to tow the 21’ Sea Pro w/ the 150 Yamaha. I pick the boat up in Summerville and drive it to James Isle. The boat is a little heavy for the highway but does fine around JI. Any standard 6 cylinder will work fine for short local trips, but anything else make sure you have something bigger

I had an 02 Ford Explorer with the V8, AWD and tow package. It was terrible for towing. I used it to tow around my 18ft G3 and I knew it was back there every time I hooked it up. The motor was fine, but the gearing was wrong. Check the gear ratio before buying.

I agree. This Obama guy is getting scary. We are well on our way to becoming Europe. Have you seen the crap they have to drive over there? Cars are first, wait till they set standards for all engines…

Basically this means no more Dodge, Ford, or Chevy full size trucks with big V8’s.

People should be VERY concerned about this. In a free country when does the president dictate what we MUST drive?
