I’ve got a 16’ Old Towne Guide canoe. For those that aren’t familiar, it is a very wide flat bottom canoe. I’ve always wanted to tie it behind my dad’s 17’ cc and get back in the grass while he is fishing the creek channels. My question is, do you think it would make it or do you think it would capsize while in tow? I guess worse case would be it capsized and I have to stop and turn it back over and keep going till it flipped again. I just don’t want to make it a more of a pain than it has to be. Anyone ever done it? Thanks in advance

Years ago we towed a canoe behind my brother’s boat.
2 ropes to the bow of the canoe tied to the corners of the boat. that way you can keep it centered in the flat spot of your wake
put a load in the back half of the canoe just behind the thwart to make it slightly stern heavy. it helps keep it from burying the bow
you can’t run very fast. it it flips it’ll probably rip cleats off the boats… guess how we learned that one

Thanks. That’s exactly what I was looking for. Not a good idea I guess.

i needed this info too. thanks. this kinda limits where I can fish with my son who only fishes from his yak now.
i prefer to make long runs away from the landing & traffic.
any thoughts along there?
strap the yak on board instead of towing
I keep looking for someone who will “mothership” me and a friend out onto the big blue with our yaks

TB - That would be epic. If you do, you should definitely have a videographer with you.

I might have a guy… BIG boat… used to be a dive boat and is turning it into a charter… More info to follow…

Believe it or not I have done this and it worked very well. I tied my Old Towne to my boat and pulled it with about 30 ft of rope. Of course no one was in it. No problem.
secure a 2x4 up front and one at rear then strap the yak on the rack and ride it off to the side of the boat.
