Need another truck to pull boat with, do I need a 4 wheel drive!! I don’t think so, but want to get a gut check. Most trucks i’m finding in my price range and condition I want are gas and 2 wheel drive.

just depends on what you’re towing. 4x4’s have a lower tow rating than 4x2’s do. I’ve pulled a 28 scout abaco out of Shem creek at low tide with a 4x2 dodge truck with a hemi. Didn’t even spin the tires on the slick stuff. It was a bit of a pucker check though. Would have felt alot better if the front tires were pulling too but got it done none-the-less.
If you’re not effecting the world around you in a positive manner…you’re taking up too much space.

its better to have 4x4 and not need it than to need 4x4 and not have it.
Gas mileage and towing capacity losses are nominal. and 4x4 will hold better resale.
the real question you should be asking isnt 4x2 or 4x4, it should be gas or diesel. Used diesel trucks are a bit more expensive, but they tow alot better and they get better economy towing.

I have had 2x4’s and presently have a 4x4. Either can be fine in a given situation. My best recommendation and the one I should have gone with (best for anyone not offroading, btw) is a 2 wheel drive with a non slip differential or even limited slip differential. You get most off the traction of a 4x4 without the headaches and extra expense off buying a 4x4. My 2x4 Dodge with a normal diff never slipped at Shem’s but did so on an icy ramp inland. It was hairy. Something else to consider: do you really need the 2500 series? My brother has a Ford F250 and gets great gas mileage towing (appx 13-14 mpg under load), not so much for anything else (gear ratios, etc) Hope this helps.
