Waterbreaker, TowBoat US’ policy is that you are covered on any vessel you are responsible for (owned, borrowed, leased, etc). Your vessel is also covered if someone is on your boat w/o you.
BTW Yes the tow from 84 miles was in a Small Craft Adv
Wow I was not aware that sea tow wouldent go out to the ledge to get you and I thought for sure you were covered on any boat you were on. And of course I just renewed this month. Well guess from the sounds of it tow boat is the better deal Ill be looking them up this time next year. Bummer.
Sea tow told me at the boat show that they would tow me from 60 miles out asa long as safty and fuel were not an issue. I have the standard pkg. Was I miss led. It’s been a few years now but seems like I chose sea tow over towboat us because of distance. I specifically asked if they would come to the edisto banks to tow me home.
Mike, you want to set us straight on this?

All Sea Tow franchisees have agreed to go a minimum 40 miles offshore. I know that Sea Tow Charleston and Georgetown have gone 70+ miles to assist members. If you happen to be anywhere outside of a Sea Tow franchise area, you are covered up to $5,000 per incident for a third party tower.
As far as I know, membership privileges for either program does not apply when the member is a guest on another person’s boat. To apply privileges in this case would be fraud.
As far as comms go, we have had capabilities for the past five years to remotely dispatch from anywhere that has an internet connection. We can monitor multiple franchise’s radios from one location. We are also able to transmit through multiple high sites at one time. I mainly dispatch from my Nextel that transmits and receives through our high site radio, and have been doing so for the past three years. So I can basically dispatch from anywhere with Nextel service. There are other developments involving our comms that are proprietary and therefore confidential.
No one wins in an us/them conversation. Both companies have their membership agreements among other things online. Take a look for yourself to compare programs. Our opinions are obviously going to be partial!
