Towing

What is the best way to prevent rear end sag while towing boat? Total weight of boat 3800 lbs. Vehicle: 2003 Tahoe Z71 4wd with 170,000 miles.Sagging is not too bad but want to be more level when towing.

Air shocks or air bags?

I have a set of these on my 07 Ram 1500. They work great and if you’re unloaded, they are not being used, so they don’t change the ride.

Can you adjust your trailer so that the boat sits a little further back? From what I’ve read in the past, the boat should be centered on the trailer so that the tongue weight is no more than 500 lbs.

I’m not sure that’s completely true. From what I’ve always been told is that you want your tongue weight to be 10-15% of the standard total boat and trailer weight… and always want whatever you’re towing to be a little tongue heavy for best towing conditions.

I have installed what we used to call overload springs. I think they call them helper springs now. Easy to install and work great. Like the item tigerfin mentioned, they do not come into play under normal driving conditions. Just when loaded.

Thanks to all!

First, are the rear shocks old and worn out?

That’s not a lot of boat for that truck…
