Toyota Tundra

I am thinking about getting a new Tundra SR5 (2wd)…Yes, the easy part…Thinking.

Please share your thoughts on the 4.6 V-8 vs the 5.7. Wanna get the best mileage possible so that is what has me leaning towards the 4.6.

I will be using it to pull a 23 Key West as well. Could go slightly bigger on the boat down the road but not bigger than 26’.

Thanks very much for any info.

Go with the 5.7 if you are going bigger boat while you have the truck. I have a Ram Hemi and wish I had a Diesel. If you are going to tow much the bigger the better. With the small motor you will have to lock out overdrive on the smallest hills or kick it down to passing gear to keep your speed up.

I had an 05 Tundra with the 4.6 and it struggled with my 23WA on the interstate. Got an 09 with the 5.7 and it doesn’t even know it’s back there. Mileage towing is crappy though! Go with the big one. The mileage is not that different. My 2 cents.

I have the 4.7 in my Land Cruiser, the tow rating is 6500 lbs and it knows the Pioneer is back there. So did the Sequoia we just sold. My F150 with the 5.4 is much better suited to towing. The 4.7 doesn’t get that great of mileage. I’m sort of a believer in the old no replacement for displacement.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

We’ve got the 5.7 on a '11 or ‘12 Sequoia, can’t remember the year. Can’t tell the 22’ Sea Hunt is back there back and forth from Greenwood. Go big!

Local Boy, Just having fun.

I got a brand new Tundra a few months ago and like it so far. I just the word “like” instead of “love” because my favorite vehicle is still the Z-71 Tahoe. Unfortunately, they start to smell after you put wet scuba gear in them a few times. A truck is just more practical for me, but I miss the Tahoe.

Good for you on the new Tundra Skineej. I know about the Tahoe as the bride drives one and loves it. So do I.

Kicking some things around regarding this.

Thanks all for the replies.

I have had my Tundra for 2 years now and would not trade it for anything. Get the 5.7. it is strong and can handle the beatings. When I went to Fl for the birth of my grandson I was getting around 18 to 19 mpg. That was running 80 to 85 all the way.
